  • Dismissal plans must be made with your child PRIOR to arriving to school. Dismissal plan changes must be submitted in writing to the classroom teacher/Los planes de salida deben hacerse con su hijo/a ANTES de llegar a la escuela. Los cambios en el plan de salida deben presentarse por escrito al maestro.
  • Excused absences require a doctor note/Las ausencias justificadas requieren una nota del médico.
  • Students are required to be in dress code every day. Jeans with NO rips are allowed on Fridays OR on days that are cold. NO leggings allowed. NO crocs/Se requiere que los estudiantes estén en código de vestimenta todos los días. Se permiten jeans SIN rasgaduras los viernes O en días fríos. NO se permiten "leggings".

4th Grade General News🗞

  • Use the I Shine folders to create an incentive plan with your child to celebrate a successful week/Usa la carpeta de I Shine para crear un plan de incentivo para celebrar una semana exitosa.

Reading 📚Lectura    

  • IF you placed  September Scholastic Book order, your order will arrive in 7 to 10 business days at NHE. 
    • Reading test 9/23. Your child will be assessed on:
      • determining the author's central idea and supporting evidence
      • Determining the author's perspective
      • Using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases
  • We are very excited for our Everglades presentation on Friday, 9/23 😊. Both classes are finishing up the project they will be presenting to third grade, administration, and Grassy Waters Conservationists. To get into full presentation mode, students may dress up as an Everglades park ranger on that day if they want.  Please see below for some optional ideas to help your child pick their outfit:

  • Project material donation letter shared via remind      
  • Daily homework is to read for at least 20 minutes. Your child can use books from home, books from NHE library or the public library, or use the books selected from Mrs. Barreras classroom library. 
  • A routine should be set in place in order to assure your child dedicates time to read in a quiet place. Technology devices should be out of sight to avoid distraction. This may need to be reinforced every so often to keep a consistent schedule. 

  • This week we will begin using our research to plan and create our products to teach 2nd and 3rd grade students including Grassy Waters Conservationists about the importance of the Florida Everglades/Esta semana comenzaremos a usar nuestra investigación para planificar y crear nuestros productos para enseñar a los estudiantes de segundo y tercer grado, incluidos los conservacionistas de Grassy Waters, sobre la importancia de los Everglades de Florida.

  • 4th Grade: This week we continue working on living things and their environment and food webs particular in Florida. Unit 2. Esta semana continuamos trabajando en los seres vivos y su medio ambiente y redes alimenticias en particular en Florida. Unidad 2 

Writing✍Escritura

  • Expository essay writing test 9/22. Prueba sobre ensayos expositivo 22 de septiembre. 

  • We continue to work on our first official unit where the students will be required to write a multiparagraph essay about a topic and support their claim with multiple reasons and evidence using multiple sources./Hemos comenzado nuestra primera unidad en la que los estudiantes deberán escribir un ensayo de varios párrafos sobre un tema y respaldar su afirmación con múltiples razones y evidencia utilizando múltiples fuentes. 

  • Expository/informative essays are a genre of essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expand on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner/Los ensayos expositivos/informativos son un género de ensayo que requiere que el estudiante investigue una idea, evalúe la evidencia, exponga la idea y presente un argumento sobre esa idea de manera clara y concisa.

  • Essays will be written in both languages./Los ensayos se escriben en los 2 idiomas.
