4th Grade General News🗞

  • Safety patrols will be selected on 5/12/2023 based on your child's iShine Folder, attendance, homework completion, and dress code. 

    • Academic 

      • demonstrates academic responsibility by completing their work on time and DO NOT have 2 or more missed classwork or homework assignments per month.

      Citizenship

      • must follow the New Horizons pledge by NOT having 2 or more marks in the iShine folder in one month.

      Attendance

      • must demonstrate responsibility by NOT having more than 10 unexcused absences or tardies.

      Dress Code/Uniforms

      • Students must follow the school’s uniform policy.

  • I Shine folders is a communication piece between parents and teachers to learn about your child's day. Please review daily and initial. Help your child reflect upon their day through the use of the I Shine folder/Las carpetas I Shine es una pieza de comunicación entre padres y maestros para aprender sobre el día de su hijo. Por favor revise diariamente y ponga sus iniciales. Ayude a su hijo a reflexionar sobre su día mediante el uso de la carpeta I Shine. 

Reading 📚Lectura    

    • March Scholastic Book orders are due 3/27/2023. Your purchase earns Barreras points for new books. https://orders.scholastic.com/M9R7W
    • Field trip forms and $2 due Monday 3/27
    • Daily homework is to read for at least 20 minutes. Your child can use their book club book, books from home, books from NHE library or the public library, or use the books selected from Mrs. Barreras classroom library. A routine should be set in place in order to assure your child dedicates time to read in a quiet place. Technology devices should be out of sight to avoid distraction. This may need to be reinforced every so often to keep a consistent schedule.

  • Resource teachers are visiting the classes to assist with small groups.

  • It's important your child is practicing their multiplication table at home. Their basic multiplication fact knowledge will aid them in accurately and fluently multiply multidigit equations. One way to help them at home is to create flashcards for the multiplication table and quiz them out of order.

  • social studies unit focuses on financial literacy. Students will learn the meaning of profit, entrepreneurship, income, and taxes through a variety of readings and in-class activities. Students will gain an understanding of financial management and become aware of how credit is obtained, retained, and used in a
    responsible manner.

  Now that we are 3 months into the school year, it's a perfect time to clean out student backpacks. They only items they should have in their backpack are the book they are currently reading, a folder for any loose papers like math homework, science and math notebook, and a pencil pouch. Tuesday folders stay in class to be distributed on Tuesdays and return the following day./ Ahora que llevamos 3 meses del año escolar, es el momento perfecto para limpiar las mochilas de los estudiantes. Los únicos materiales que deben tener en su mochila son el libro que están leyendo actualmente, una carpeta para cualquier papel suelto como tareas de matemáticas, la libreta de ciencias y matemáticas y una bolsa para lápices. Las carpetas de martes se quedan en clase para ser distribuidas los martes y regresar al día siguiente.
